Mayday, 2006

Good morning, sunshine and showers, wake this fair day
And send my goodwill to all of mankind.
Let dewfall and morning wash new the green grass
And remind me of days and of years gone by.
The dancers are out, dancing the may dance
Round the pole, decked with ribbons
Fertility's sign, and our signal perchance
To take hold of life and make it complete?
Mayday is England, more than a flag,
More than the football so-called fan when abroad
More than the Union flag, or cross of St George,
A part of the hills and the moors and the sea,
England for all time, for ever, for me.
